MRI detected mass decrease in patients with amyloidosis after treatment with green tea: a one year follow-up study

چکیده
Background Amyloidosis (AM) is a disease complex that results from extra-cellular protein deposition of uniquely twisted and insoluble beta pleated sheet fibrils that can be found in several acquired or hereditary AM forms. Clinically apparent cardiac involvement can be seen in about 30% of patients resulting in a restrictive cardiomyopathy, which is the most common cause of death in these patients. Recently, there was compelling evidence that polyphenol epigallo-catechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a chemical component of regular green tea, induces aggregation products that do not polymerize into fibrils. Cardiac MRI is the reference standard for measurement of cardiac function, myocardial mass and cardiac remodeling but has not been used for longitudinal follow-up of AM patients treated with EGCG. We hypothesized that cardiac MRI is able to detect changes in cardiac function, myocardial mass and LV remodeling in AM patients being treated with EGCG for 12 months.

Green tea extract as a treatment for patients with wild-type transthyretin amyloidosis: an observational study
BACKGROUND Causative treatment of patients with wild-type transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (wtATTR-CM) is lacking. Recent reports indicate the potential use of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), the most abundant catechin in green tea, to inhibit amyloid fibril formation. We sought to investigate changes of cardiac function and morphology in patients with wtATTR-CM after consumption of gree...

Background and Aim: In addition to antioxidant compounds, green tea has anti-diabetic antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic and anti-obesity properties. So, this study aimed to investigate the effect of 8- weeks of aerobic training and green tea supplementation on aerobic capacity, body mass index and fat percentage in obese and overweight officers students. Methods: In this quasi-exp...
متن کاملThe Effect of Green Tea versus Sour Tea on Insulin Resistance, Lipids Profiles and Oxidative Stress in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Background: By decreasing oxidative stress and whereby decreasing insulin resistance, it may be possible to decrease complications of Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Green tea and sour tea contain phytochemicals which have anti-oxidative function. The aim of this study is to compare the effect of sour and green tea consumption on insulin resistance and oxidative stress in DM.Methods: This study is a ra...
